-
Year-round allergies — dust, mold, pet dander

Allergy-related sinus congestion — pressure, stuffiness, postnasal drip

Food allergies — support alongside your allergist’s care, never in place of it
How acupuncture helps
Acupuncture offers a non-pharmacologic option without adding another medication or medication-related side effects.
In a large trial published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, people with seasonal allergies who received acupuncture reported better quality of life and used fewer antihistamines than those who got sham acupuncture or medication alone.
The American Academy of Otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat doctors) lists acupuncture as an option for allergy patients who want a non-drug approach.
For seasonal allergies, starting a few weeks before your season usually works better than starting at its peak. Individual results vary.
For food sensitivities and food allergies, we focus on calming symptoms and supporting digestion and overall reactivity. The research here is limited, so we track your symptoms closely and are honest about what's changing.
Some patients also benefit from herbs or supplements — like nettle, quercetin, or a classical Chinese formula chosen for your pattern. We don't use herbs during pregnancy or with a history of cancer.

What to expect
-
A real first visit. We start with a full consultation, review your history, and build a treatment plan around your symptoms and goals.
-
A gentle, drug-free approach. Acupuncture needles are very thin — most people are surprised by how little they feel.
-
Progress we measure, not guess at. We track your symptoms, how well you're sleeping, and how often you reach for allergy meds, visit to visit.
-
An honest answer. Acupuncture isn't the right fit for everyone. If I don't think it will help you, I'll tell you.
-
Care that fits with your medical team. Keep using your medications as prescribed — we work alongside your doctor or allergist.
Acupuncture works alongside your medical care — not in place of it. If you have a diagnosed food allergy, keep avoiding your trigger foods and keep your EpiPen on you. Never test yourself with a food you're allergic to. Trouble breathing, wheezing, throat tightness, or swelling of the lips, tongue, or face is an emergency — use your EpiPen if you have one and call 911.
Have insurance? Let's check it before you come in.
We're in-network with most major Oregon plans — PacificSource, UnitedHealthcare, Moda, Regence, Oregon Health Plan (OHP), and others.
One note on Medicare: standard Medicare doesn't cover acupuncture for allergies. Some Medicare Advantage plans do include acupuncture benefits, so call us and we'll check yours. If you're paying out of pocket, ask about our self-pay options — we accept HSA and FSA cards, and payment plans are available.
Not sure what you've got? Call or text 503-868-1496 and we'll verify your specific benefits before your first visit — no surprises.

FAQ
When should I start?
For seasonal allergies, a few weeks before your season starts is ideal. Already in it? Come in now — you don't have to wait for next year.
How many treatments will I need?
We'll outline a plan after your first visit and track your symptoms as we go. In the main research trial, patients had 12 sessions over 8 weeks.
Can I keep taking my allergy medication?
Yes. Don't stop or change medications without talking to your doctor.
Can acupuncture cure my food allergy?
No. Acupuncture can't make a food allergy go away or make your trigger foods safe to eat. We can help with related symptoms — like digestive upset and overall reactivity — alongside your allergist's care.
