Headache & Migraine Treatment in Oregon City
If you plan your week around your next migraine, keep painkillers in every bag, or wake up with a headache that's already there, you know how much it takes from you. You're not imagining it. And there may be more you can do than another prescription and riding it out in a dark room.

Family Care Acupuncture in downtown Oregon City offers a safe, non-drug approach to headaches and migraines — for patients who want fewer attacks, not just better rescue meds.
Do you have these symptoms?
-
Migraines that cost you workdays, plans, or sleep
-
Tension headaches that wrap around your head or start at the base of your skull
-
Headaches tied to your period, stress, poor sleep, or screen time
-
Neck and shoulder tightness that rides along with your headaches
-
Relying on pain relievers more days than you'd like
-
Preventive medications that didn't work or had side effects you couldn't live with
If so, you're in the right place.
Who we help
We commonly work with patients experiencing:
-
Episodic migraine — with or without aura
-
Tension-type headaches — frequent or chronic
-
Hormonal/menstrual migraines — often alongside our women’s health care
-
Neck-related headaches — tight neck and shoulders feeding the pain
How acupuncture helps
Acupuncture offers a non-pharmacologic option without adding another medication or medication-related side effects.
A Cochrane review of 22 trials found that acupuncture reduced how often migraines happened — and that it may be about as effective as preventive medication, with fewer side effects.
A companion review found similar benefits for people with frequent tension headaches.
A course of at least six sessions is typical, and individual results vary.

What to expect
-
A real first visit. We start with a full consultation, review your history, and build a treatment plan around your symptoms and goals.
-
A gentle, drug-free approach. Acupuncture needles are very thin — most people are surprised by how little they feel.
-
Progress we measure, not guess at. We track how often your headaches come, how bad they get, and how many days you reach for medication, visit to visit.
-
An honest answer. Acupuncture isn't the right fit for everyone. If I don't think it will help you, I'll tell you.
-
Care that fits with your medical team. Keep taking your medications as prescribed — we work alongside your doctor or neurologist.
Acupuncture works alongside your medical care — not in place of it. A sudden, severe “worst headache of your life,” a headache with fever and a stiff neck, a headache after a head injury, or a headache with weakness, confusion, vision loss, or trouble speaking needs emergency care — call 911 or go to the ER.
Have insurance? Let's check it before you come in.
We're in-network with most major Oregon plans — PacificSource, UnitedHealthcare, Moda, Regence, Oregon Health Plan (OHP), and others.
One note on Medicare: standard Medicare doesn't cover acupuncture for headaches. Some Medicare Advantage plans do include acupuncture benefits, so call us and we'll check yours. If you're paying out of pocket, ask about our self-pay options — we accept HSA and FSA cards, and payment plans are available.
Not sure what you've got? Call or text 503-868-1496 and we'll verify your specific benefits before your first visit — no surprises.

FAQ
How many treatments will I need?
Research supports a course of at least six sessions. We'll outline a plan after your first visit, track how often your headaches come, and space visits out as you improve.
Should I come in during a migraine?
You can, but the goal is prevention — fewer and milder attacks over time. Regular visits between headaches do the heavy lifting.
Can I keep taking my migraine medication?
Yes. Don't stop or change medications without talking to your doctor — acupuncture works alongside them.
